National Ozone Unit Training on Refrigerants and Good Refrigeration Practices


The National Ozone Unit continued its training and outreach to technicians in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Sector with a Virtual Training on Refrigerants and Good Refrigeration Practices.  This session is a first of four sessions that will focus on the chemical composition of these alternatives and technical information that is required for good refrigeration practices using these refrigerants.

Ozone talk at Trinre Insurance

The National Ozone Unit conducted a talk on Tuesday 23 Nov 2021 for TRINRE insurance company for their health week promotions.  Staff were educated on the importance of sun protection and hiring a certified technician.  The dangers of improper installation and servicing of AC systems were highlighted and its potential impacts on homeowners and vehicular insurance.

Trinidad and Tobago Elected to One of Three Vice Presidents for the Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol for 2022

Trinidad and Tobago has been elected in the position of one of three Vice Presidents to the Bureau of the Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol for the year 2022. The position will be held by Dr. Marissa Gowrie National Ozone Officer of Trinidad and Tobago.

This country has been very successful in its efforts thus far to phase out ozone depleting substances having phased out the imports of cholorofluorocarbons and halons since 2008 two years ahead of schedule. Methyl Bromide for non quaratine purposes was also phased out in 2015. Work is also ongoing to phase out hydrochlorofluorocarbons which began in 2013 and the phase down of hydrofluorocarbons will begin in 2024.

This latest appointment will further signal Trinidad and Tobago's commitment to work toward achieving the goals of the Montreal Protocol.

Ozone Awareness to Students


Despite restrictions due to Covid the National Ozone Unit has distributed ozone awareness packages to students through certain Form 1 registration activities. Information shared was on general ozone awareness as well as how ozone depletion affects climate change and biodiversity.
