Building Digital Skills in HVAC through Train-the-Trainer Sessions

In a recent Zoom session a group of RAC  trainers were apprised of a proposed course on digital technologies in the RAC sector. The ‘Train-the-Trainer’ session brought together instructors from technical and vocational institutions across the country who specialize in refrigeration and air conditioning training.

The session aims to strengthen the local capacity of RAC training schools by integrating up-to-date digital tools and methodologies into traditional refrigeration and cooling curricula. Ronaldo’s module covers everything from smart diagnostics to data logging and IoT-enabled system controls—equipping trainers to pass these crucial skills on to the next generation of technicians.

This training is a key step in supporting climate-smart cooling practices and advancing sustainable development goals through innovation in technical education. By investing in trainers, the initiative ensures a multiplier effect, empowering institutions to deliver modern, climate-friendly training at scale.

Awareness on Ozone Layer Protection

The National Ozone Unit continues to educate and share information on the ozone layer and actions taken at a national level to protect it.

Advancing Certification and Capacity Building in the RAC Sector

The National Ozone Unit continues to strengthen the capacity of refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) technicians through its Professional RAC Certification Programme. In a recent milestone, technicians received their leak detectors as part of the recertification process—an essential tool for ensuring environmentally sound servicing practices and compliance with Montreal Protocol standards.

Additionally, the Unit was proud to issue certificates to technicians who successfully completed the Hydrocarbon Cool Training Programme hosted at the Energy Chamber. This specialized training equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to safely handle flammable, low-GWP refrigerants like R-290, supporting the country’s transition to sustainable cooling technologies.

These efforts form part of Trinidad and Tobago’s broader commitment to capacity building under the Montreal Protocol
